Privacy policy

Breather browser extension and the breathfeed.com website. Last updated October 8, 2026.

Breather hides YouTube videos on topics and tones you choose not to see. It has no accounts and never filters by political viewpoint. This page lists everything the extension sends, what our server keeps, and for how long.

Single purpose

Breather's single purpose is to hide video tiles on YouTube pages, by topic and tone, according to the filters you choose. Everything it collects is used only for that purpose.

What the extension sends

When What is sent What our server keeps
Once, on install A request for an anonymous install token. The request contains no information about you. A one-way hash of the token, the date it was created, the last date it was used, how many days it has been used, a small usage counter, and whether it has been revoked. Per-day request counts for each token are kept to enforce fair-use limits and deleted when that day ends (UTC). We never store your IP address.
While you browse YouTube (home, search and the watch-page sidebar) For each video tile the extension hasn't already checked: the video ID, the video title, the channel name and the channel @handle shown on the tile, plus your install token so we can apply fair-use limits. The classification result (how likely the video is to match each filter), stored with the video ID and a one-way hash of the title, channel and handle, for 7 days, so other users seeing the same video don't need a new check. These results are not linked to your token. We do not keep the titles themselves.
When you press "Not Politics?" (or another filter) or "Should be hidden?" The video ID, which filter it's about, whether it should be hidden or shown, the score the video had, and the filter-question version. That feedback, with the date only (no time) and no link to your token.
Once a day, only if you opt in to usage counts The date, extension version, browser, the week you opted in, days since opting in, whether this is your first report or your day-7 report, how many videos were seen, hidden (per filter) and revealed, how many "wrong label" reports you sent, and how many pages had no videos found. No video IDs, titles, channels or identifiers. The report, with no link to your token. To count each install once per day, the token's hash and the date are kept until two days after that date ends (UTC), then deleted.

You can turn usage counts on or off at any time in the extension's options. The extension never sends your browsing history, the pages you visit outside YouTube, what you watch, your searches, or anything you type.

Classification by TypeSafe AI

To decide whether a video matches a filter, our server sends the title, channel name and handle (never your token, IP address or the video ID) to TypeSafe AI's Jev model. TypeSafe keeps request data only as long as necessary to provide the service, under its standard Data Processing Agreement, and does not train its models on it. We have not arranged zero data retention with TypeSafe; if that changes, we will update this page.

Our website

The landing page counts visits per day by link source (for example, a link shared from the extension) and counts clicks on the store buttons the same way. It sets no cookies, uses no third-party analytics, and doesn't store your IP address.

IP addresses and logs

Our server sees your IP address when your browser connects, as every website does. It uses it only in memory to apply fair-use limits and never writes it to our database. Server logs record counts, timings and status codes. They never contain request contents such as video IDs, titles or tokens.

Stored on your device

Your settings, your allowed and hidden channel lists, cached classification results, the "hidden today" counts, and which videos you revealed during this browser session stay in your browser's extension storage. Uninstalling the extension deletes them.
